Liberty staff support Bermuda cancer fundraiser for sixth year

11 March 2019, LONDON – Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, will support Bermuda’s drive to improve cancer awareness and treatment by fielding a large staff team to take part in this year’s Relay For Life fundraiser event.

For the sixth year in succession, over 60 staff from Liberty Specialty Markets Bermuda and their families will take part in what is one of the island’s largest annual fundraising events this May.

The Bermuda Relay For Life attracts more than 5,000 people and has raised over $3.8 million for cancer awareness and treatment on the island. Liberty Specialty Markets Bermuda will be the presenting sponsor again this year.

Steve Horton, President of Liberty Specialty Markets Bermuda, said: “Relay for Life of Bermuda has had and continues to have a tremendous impact on our community.  This annual event has been an enormous success and in five years has raised funds to successfully open a radiation facility at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.

“Bermudians and residents alike will not have to travel abroad, away from their family, jobs and daily lives to receive treatment, they can be treated right here at home.  Also, services will be provided to all residents regardless of their level of health insurance or ability to pay.  Liberty Specialty Markets is honoured to be a continued part of this event that impacts the entire Bermuda community.”

Since 2014, Liberty Specialty Markets Bermuda has donated over $488,000 to Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre through corporate sponsorship and the annual employee participation in the Relay For Life campaign.

Relay For Life is a 24-hour event at which teams, cancer survivors and caregivers take part in a relay-style walk. Each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times in order to signify that cancer never sleeps. In addition to raising much-needed funds, the relay honours cancer survivors and remembers family and friends who succumbed to the disease.
