Our European business is headquartered in Luxembourg

We offer specialty and commercial insurance and reinsurance products in Europe, with branches in Europe, Switzerland and one in the UK. We provide brokers and insureds with a broad product range through both the Company and Lloyd’s markets and have over 1,200 employees in our European and UK offices.

Europe is a key strategic market for Liberty Specialty Markets and a focus for growth. Our clients appreciate our stability, long-term view and strong relationships, and in the uncertainty of the post-pandemic world, those qualities in a reinsurance and insurance company are more important than ever. Our European footprint

Our Company European underwriting platform, Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe SE (LMIE), domiciled in Luxembourg and trading as Liberty Specialty Markets, enables us to deliver the certainty and stability that our European customers and employees need.

LMIE is authorised and regulated by the Luxembourg Minister of Finance and Commissariat aux Assurances. LMIE underwrites insurance and reinsurance business through its branches in key locations across Europe: UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland and Belgium, either on a freedom of establishment basis, on a freedom of services basis or through a third country branch.

Our financial strength

As at 31st December 2023, Liberty Specialty Markets had a combined Gross Written Premium of $4,879 million. We are rated A (Strong) from Standard & Poor’s and A (Excellent) by A. M. Best. Our Lloyd's Syndicate also benefits from the Lloyd’s A+ rating.
