Shelter stemmed from an investigation into woodland landscapes and how humans interact with them. The title refers to the shelter of sticks in the foreground of the painting. I made this piece in response to a walk I went on to Box Hill, with an interest in the traces that people leave in the landscape and how they weave narrative into the scenery. Through a process of repetitive drawing and collaging, Shelter became a re-imagining of this experience, separated only slightly from reality through my use of colour and fragmented forms.
