Tell us about 'Red Centre'
Red Centre, like many of my pieces, was based on a particular landscape or place, in this case the central desert of Australia. The layers, gestures of paint and the scale reflect the geological processes of erosion, growth and history of the land, the colours are the pigments of earth and the clear sky. Perspective and horizon are ambiguous, prompting questions of whether this is a landscape or a map; it is neither but attempts to emulate the feeling of being in that landscape.
