Ruth Swain - Lady with two sticks

Tell us about 'Lady with two sticks'

This portrait is of April, a little old lady who lives down my lane. April was, in her youth, a famous opera singer. She walks down the lane everyday with her friend and I couldn’t resist painting her. I put a music score in her pocket as a little reminder of her former life. Her face tells so many stories and I loved her worn broken shoes.
