Confluence Sky

Initially inspired by industrial imagery from a location at a confluence of rivers, the painting explores the world where there is no clear sky or ground, and where the surfaces are moving and unsound. It investigates the sense of uncertainty through the metaphors of a crumbling ground and collapsing sky. There is a strong ambiguity in the work in that it is an unknown space with a sense of impending disaster in the flame-like pas-sages in the sky and ground but there is also sunlight and a sense of calm from the figures - simply watching or walking. Painted in both acrylic and oils, the work has its own physicality with passages of thick brushwork, combined with layers of washes.
